Phonics and Spelling Rules

Phonics is a fun and child-centered approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is very motivating for children. The letter sounds are split into seven groups. Learning phonics is the most essential first step to learning English, by applying Phonics to English language learning one can ensure proper pronunciation from the beginning. Phonics work by including over 40 English sounds. The children learn each sound with an accompanying picture, action, song, and tune.

These elements ensure that every sound is memorable whether a child learns better through visual representation or aurally. Although only 26 letters appear in the English alphabet, 42 sounds are created through joining letters. By teaching children how to identify these letters, they gain the ability to read by breaking down each sound when faced with a bigger word. phonics and their positive effects can be seen when children begin reading full sentences in English. By referring back to phonics when teaching, children grasp the pronunciation of a new word far easier.
